All I Wanted Was A Shower: A Poem

Disclaimer: A poem that I wrote when my daughter was four months old. Please understand that this is what I was feeling at the time, not what I actually think or how I actually feel. This was written during a very vulnerable moment.

All I wanted was a shower.
But as a mom...that's not okay.
It's selfish.
She's crying,
Why won't you make her stop.
It doesn't matter that you have her.
What matters is that I wanted to take five minutes to myself and bathe.
It doesn't matter that I showered as fast as possible.
It doesn't matter that I don't think I even washed all of the shampoo out of my hair.
What matters is that I ran.
According to you...
I ran.
Self-care isn't important anymore.
All I wanted was a shower.
