Full Moon Hike

Hey y’all! It’s Kathy!!!!

Long time, no see!

So, Friday July 27, I was supposed to go on a night hike. I’m a member of a Facebook group for women hikers and someone mentioned that an outdoors place in the area had a Full Moo Hike every full moon, so I decided to go on the hike. The moon was supposed to be very pretty (and it was) and I love a good full moon! (Cancer in the house!)

I registered to go to the hike at the beginning of July and got an email confirming that I had registered. I had looked at Facebook and Facebook said that it started at 8:30 PM. I didn’t think much more of it.

Well that night I left my house around 7:30 PM because I knew that it would take me about an hour to get to the park where the hike was taking place. While on the way I checked my email to double check and make sure that I was going to the right place.

Wellll….I was going to the right place; however, my email read that the Full Moon Hike started at 8:00. (Damn you Mercury and your retrograde!!!!)

I wasn’t really mad, just kind of annoyed. I mean I’m not mad at the company at all because shit happens...it was a simple mistake...and honestly, I should have looked at my email and I didn’t.

I decided to ask my self WWDD (What Would Dixie Do)...I know 99% of y’all reading this are probably going to have no clue who Dixie is, so I’ll link her YouTube channel HERE

Simply put, Dixie is a hiker who does YouTube videos about her hikes...And she is always so freakin positive! And I love it! I felt that she would just say, “You know what, why be mad about it? I have X,Y, and Z going on right here.”

So that’s what I did.

I looked around and saw this beautiful picturesque sunset that I couldn’t actually take a picture of because there was nowhere for me to pull over, but that’s okay because I was able to take it in. And I knew that I would soon be driving into the mountains and one of my favorite things is to see the mountains in the horizon. It’s been something that has always taken my breath away as a child...and even more as an adult.

I also decided right then and there that if I didn’t get to do the hike that I would find a field to pull over in and look at the moon there.

When I got to the place, it had, of course, started at 8:00, not 8:30. As I sat there trying to decide if I should leave or if I should find a place to sit while I was there, another car pulled up.

It was a woman and her boyfriend/significant other/partner/friend...whatever. (We’ll just call them Janelle and Bill.)I asked them if they were there for the hike. The woman said, “we are, but I think we’re late.” (They too had looked at the Facebook time…)

They decided to go and try to find the group. They asked me if I wanted to go with them and I said, “hell, why not.”

As we were walking through the woods, I kept thinking, “OMG, they’re serial killers and I’m going to die and become a Criminal Minds episode.”

Btw, speaking of Criminal Minds….when is the next season coming onto Netflix?

We came upon this really cool free standing chimney/fireplace in the woods. Janelle made a comment about how creepy it was and how it was like the start of a horror movie….I’m thinking, “Duh Janelle! I’ve been thinking this the whole time!” She also asked what kind of creatures I thought was there...I told her that I did not

We keep walking with Bill leading the way! He was an awesome group leader if I may say so myself.

As we are walking we start hearing this crying noise. It was like a baby animal crying. Janelle and Bill started to look around and wonder what it was. I just said, “ummm, I don’t think that I want to know what it is. I mean, what if the mama is around here...I just don’t want to die.”

Not too much further there was almost a fork in the path. There was some steps almost in front of us and then to the left the trail continued. We talked about it for a second and then decided to go up the steps. There is where we saw everyone!

Had actually found the group...however, we did not find the moon.

The moon was literally nowhere to be seen. I guess it was behind the clouds.

The area was pretty awesome and if the moon had been out it would have been very pretty.

Not too long after we walked up the steps the group leaders said, “alright guys! Let’s go back!”

So we started to head back with the group...well, guess what...the path that the group took was maybe 10 minutes long...10 minutes...like seriously! We hiked for like 30 minutes...it was literally almost a straight shot to the steps where the group was….

I looked at Bill and Janelle and said, “seriously? A straight shot.”

We all agreed that out route was more fun and more adventurous.

The moon was so beautiful on the way home. When I got closer to my house, I decided to pull over in a field near my house and take the picture at the beginning of the post and I just stood there and spent time in the moon...which is something that I do almost every time there is a full moon.

There will probably be a lot more posts about hiking. I have signed up for a 28.3 mile hike to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation and there is a hike every other weekend until October 27, 2018.

If you would like to donate, that would be amazing. Any little (or big) amount would help!

Thank y’all so much for hanging out with me!

XOXO,
