Makeup Favorites: Face Products

Like a lot of people, I go through different products and different techniques when it comes to makeup.  This most will be about my favorite face products.  It will include what I use for primers, foundation, powders, concealers, bronzers, highlighters, and contouring products.

First and foremost, I'm going to start off with my favorite primers.  One of them is a high end and the other is drugstore.

The high end that I love is Benefit's Porefessional.  It costs $30 so it's a little steep, but it makes your face so smooth.  The problem that I have with this is that because it is so expensive I only use it on special occasions like my graduation and my wedding.

Here is where you can purchase it on Benefit's website: http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/product/view/the-porefessional

My everyday primer is Rimmel London's face primer.  I use the tinted one.  This stuff is almost always out when I go to the store.  It doesn't matter which one I go to sometimes.  It smooths your face out and it makes it feel very soft.  I have gotten compliments on my face even if that was the only thing I have had on.  I recommend this to everyone.  They also make a clear one now that I am assuming is supposed to be similar to Smashbox.

Here's the link to buy it from Ulta, but you can get it from any drugstore, Walmart, or Target.

Next on to foundation.  I don't use foundation everyday, but right now I'm using Revlon's PhotoReady Airbrush Foundation.  From reading reviews this is a product that some people love and some people hate.  I have found that I really like it because when you apply it just right it will give you a perfectly flawless finish.  It does have a little shimmer to it, but I don't mind the shimmer.  I feel that it gives you a nice glow, but that is a potential issue for some.  When it comes out it is very foamy.  It will deflate pretty quickly.  Fair warning, a lot can come out at one time (as you'll see a lot on my hand in the swatch), but a little can go a long way.  Just keep that in mind.  I personally like to apply it with Real Techniques Expert Face Brush, but I also like to apply it with E.L.F's flat top powder brush.
Where to buy:  You can get it at any drugstore, Walmart, Target, or other places like that. Here is a link for Ulta.com

My Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (sorry it isn't perfectly clean!)
I bought mine at Ulta and I did see a link online for Walgrees, so maybe you can get it there at some places, but here is a link for RealTechniques website.
I cannot find my ELF powder brush right at this moment, but I'm going to put a link to it below.  It costs $3 at Target, but you can also get it on ELF's website and sometimes they have discounts...actually I feel like they have a lot of discounts on their website.

Next is concealing and contouring.  I have been using NYX's concealers for this.  For highlighting/concealing I have been using Porcelain and for contouring I have been using Glow.  Porcelain is light for me but I feel like it helps with covering and brightening.  Glow is a couple of shades darker, but it's good for contouring.  It isn't too dark though so I feel like it blends well into my skin.  The concealer pot is similar to Benefit's concealer pot, but it isn't as smooth in my opinion.  Next time I buy stuff for contouring I will be getting foundation sticks and trying those, but for now this works out perfectly.

Here is a link to NYX's website, but you can also buy it at Ulta.
Right now it's on sale on the website for $3 when it is normally $5!

Last but not least are the powders that I use.  I use three different kinds.  The first one I will be talking about is by Benefit (I absolutely love Benefit by the way).  It is their Hello Flawless foundation powder.  As usual, I'm going to rave and say this stuff is amazing.  It really is.  I have read articles saying that you shouldn't really use a powder foundation, but I really like this stuff.  I really do not need a lot of foundation, so a lot of times I'll use just come primer, concealer under my eyes, and powder.  Again, this stuff is kind of expensive at $34 a pop on their website, and I believe that it is the same price at Ulta and the Benefit counter at places like Belk.
As you can see, I love this stuff so much I've hit pan...that normally doesn't happen for me because I don't usually use enough for it to happen.

The product that I use when I go all out and use foundation is ELF's High Definition Powder.  I have read that this is a good comparison for a lot of higher end high definition powder, but some say that it isn't.  I like it in general.  I have also read that it can give a glow around your face when pictures are taken with a flash.  I haven't experienced this, but I also haven't had the opportunity to experience this.  Maybe I'll try it out next time I go out.  It's $6 at Target and on ELF's website.
As you can see there is a sifter and an applicator just like every day powder.  The powder is also very fine and contains silica which helps smooth out the face; however, sometimes it can get into fine lines.  With all of that being said, I think there are better translucent powders out there that I would like to try.  I'm not sure how I feel about spending $6 on something that I feel is just mediocre when CoverGirl, Rimmel, and Revlon aren't that far off in price and may be much better.  I think NYX may have a good translucent powder too.

These are just a few of my favorite products.  Trust me, we haven't even scrapped the surface.  I think I'll do these from foundation up.

I hope y'all have enjoyed this!!

Kat
