What I Learned Today (Today's Workout-8/29)

I have a goal of losing 30 pounds by graduation...in December. I have a super awesome Weight Loss Tree for motivation (more on that in another post)!  With that, I am getting over my fear of the gym and following my soon to be trainer friend, Nicole, and becoming a gym rat...I always thought her body was amazing before she went, but holy shit, I don't think she's lost a pound but her muscles are popping more than ever before!  So I decided, I have a gym membership at Fike, damn it, I'm going to use it!  So, I've been going to Fike between Monday and Wednesday classes and once after my Thursday class. This Tuesday, I was sooo exhausted that I just went home and pretty much went to bed right after I talked to my mom at like 9:15.  I'm very proud of myself!

Now to what I learned today at the gym....

The past week I've been carrying a gym bag almost every day, and I've gotten a lot of looks and I'm little ill about it (ask my friends), but I just ignored it...no matter how much I wanted to flick them off or jump at them.  Well, then I went to the gym and I noticed I was still getting looks up and down from people...WTF is there ANYTHING wrong with wanting to be healthier? Nope, and honestly, even though I'm not super skinny, I am in better shape than some skinny people I know (except for Nicole of course). Anyways, I still just ignored them and went on with my business...A little known fact about me, I love, love, love that I have some muscle.  I have never been able to flex and show something.  It might now be much of a muscle (unfortunately fat covers some of it)...but I can do push ups.  It really annoyed me that I was getting looked down on because I was in the gym.  Douche bags...Okay so for this made me realize today, girls are bitches and guys just don't give a shit...Alright, I know, you already know that I know that, but just listen to me. When I'm on the treadmill, the elliptical (you won't catch me here much), and the bike I always get side glances, but when I'm in the weight room I don't get any...the thing here, I was the only female in the weight room, and I was more than happy about.  The only words said to me was excuse me and he was just picking up his keys. No one else looked at me, well except when I was stretching. So you know where I might be a good bit...around the non-judgmental guys. I guess I'm going to have to start packing my gloves for weight lifting. I need to bedazzle them or something.  Something I would love to tell you girls women with the side glances, I'm not going anywhere and in a month I'll be stronger than you and probably just as fit, I'll still just have a little more weight on my and my boobs will still be bigger than yours.

The second thing I learned today...Those stupid weight machines are just that....stupid.  They looks stupid, they work stupidly, and they make you looks stupid when you stand there looking at it going, how in the fuck am I supposed to work this again? And what does it do?  The dumbbells are less intimidating and look less stupid...and they even have the work dumb in their name!  Use them, and don't forget using your own body as a weight. Push ups and burpees have always been the best exercises...how do you think some prisoners stay in shape so much?  Burpees are said to have been invented in a prison. As much as I hate them, they are a full body workout!

That's all for this edition of "What I Learned Today."  I started a tumblr for my weight loss journey; however, for long posts like this I will be posting on here! So follow me bitches!  Love y'all!

XOXO,
Kat

  1. I have to admit that "Run like you stole something" sign is pretty amazing. :D I also agree that weight machines, as a whole, are pretty stupid—they usually make your body move in ways which they would not naturally do so. Free weights are a much better bang for your buck.

The real key to weight loss isn't just about what we eat or what exercise we do—it's also about why we do or don't do the things we know we should do to become better. It's easy for us to get caught in bad habits like eating because we're stressed out or having a bad day. It's easy to say that we can skip the run today because we're bored of running the same route for ten days. It's a way of filling our different human needs.

I'd encourage you to take a look at the video in my link of Beverly, who lost 230 lbs. without any surgery or weight loss "magic bullets" aside from diet and exercise. In it, our different human needs are explained along with ways to become healthier. It's not that long, and you might find it to be pretty interesting.

  3. hahaha your last picture was very funny! LOL! Totally made my morning with the "run like you stole something!"

Also, the gym thing, I completely feel you. Starting this summer, I kinda don't like the gym.. and right now, I'm kinda tired of the gym. But the gym is really a special place. It's the only place where no matter how bad you feel walking in, you always feel better walking out after a nice work out :)

Hope it motivates you in some way. Also, I found a picture of on tumblr that said "Gym: the place where calories is burn, and pride is earned!" :D

    1. Yes! You're right! It sucks too because I haven't been able to work out for two weeks now! One week I was so busy I didn't have time and the other I was sick! I'm feeling better now and I'm planning on getting back in the gym tomorrow...Here I come Turbo Kick!
