Week One...Down

So this week is finally over! It was kind of a rough start for me in Peru….it wasn’t horrible though….thank God.  This week, as anyone who has read my blog knows, started off with me coming to Peru.  The first few days went kind of like this:

Our plane was delayed and they had to switch us to a different airline. Then, we almost missed out next flight because Miami makes you go back through security to switch carriers.  So we had to do that and go all the way to our next terminal in an hour. Then when we got to Peru, my luggage wasn’t there. One good thing about this is that I didn’t really have any luggage to carry from the airport. They said they would send it to Casma by a bus, and they did, I just didn’t get it until the Wednesday after I got here. Which was fine, whatever, but the lady at the bus station said they didn’t send my bag one of the days because they sent six rolls of chicken wire instead…my suitcase was a quarter of the size of one of those rolls, I really think they could have handled sending my suitcase, but whatever, I have it now so I’m happy.

Everything else went okay this week though. Although there was a leak in our water heater, the senora said she fixed it…it’s still dripping. Also, that may or may not be the reason we haven’t really had hot water since Wednesday…yay to cold showers in the winter!

Today we went to Caral. It’s an archeological site about three hours away from Casma. I don’t know much about it though because the tour guide spoke in Spanish (stupid me and me not understanding Spanish very well).  I do know it’s really old and that there are a lot of huacas. (If you want to know what a huaca is comment, email, or Facebook me….or you can stop being lazy and Google that shit.) There was a really cool plaza though….I need to post my pictures from last year of Huaca de la Luna and Chan Chan…I don’t think I have those posted on Facebook.

These are reconstructed but this is what the stairways leading up the huacas would have looked like

After Caral, we went to this sea food restaurant. It was pretty good and next to the ocean.

A few fun interesting things that happened this week…
There were two men with a harp on the side of the highway....I really wish I had a picture of this.
The little market area in Casma had a Merry Go Round that was playing Christmas music.
I learned how to distinguish Peru and Mexico in soccer. (Peru won by the way).
I got free cake from Lucy.
There was the lantern parade thing. (I do have a video of this.)
I was on TV in Peru.
Oh yeah….
I got to get my geek on with the PXRF machine.
The hostal we're staying at

The chifa next to the hostal. It's freakin awesome!

P.S. I leave you with the most hilarious Youtube video I found this week...okay maybe not the most hilarious but it's pretty funny.
